De Windketel is unique boutique apartment and is surrounded by a flowery garden with a south-facing terrace. The sunny entrance gives access to a practically furnished kitchen/diner. You can cook and sit comfortably at the spacious kitchen table. There is floor heating, which makes it always comfortable here. For the hot days in summer we installed an AC in the living and bedroom which is unique in town. We like to welcome you in our boutique hotel in the heart of our beautiful city. The stairs to the second floor lead to a spacious living room. The room has a lot of natural light because it has windows to the ceiling on four sides. At the same time you have enough privacy, thanks to the beautiful drapes and curtains. From the room you look out on the Watertorenplein. The living room itself is comfortable and furnished with Dutch Design furniture by young and old Dutch designers. Among other things, you'll find an interesting rug by Woody Wood, an armchair and table by Gispen from the 1950s and a Montis couch, so comfortable, you don't want to leave it. A steel spiral staircase leads to the romantic attic bedroom with an original bright yellow Auping bed and bath with shower. Through the skylights you can see the stars at night. You have full access to the whole property and complete privacy for the duration of your stay. Your host is there to let you in, show you around, give you all the details of the house and give you all the tips of the great places to be in the great neighborhood or of course other areas of the city. As a host, we understand the importance of giving our guests their privacy and space. However, we are always available to assist in any way possible should they need anything during their stay. To ensure a smooth and seamless experience, we have a dedicated host and cleaner who will be available to our guests through a group chat. This allows for prompt and efficient communication, ensuring that any requests or concerns are addressed in a timely manner. Your comfort and satisfaction is our top priority, and we will do everything in our power to make your stay at our hotel a truly memorable experience. Our boutique hotel stands in the middle of the Watertorenplein next to a giant white water tower that is still in operation. The house is a national monument and was once owned by the municipal water company Amsterdam. The drinking water that was stored in reservoirs on site was transported via the machine pump building (the current café-restaurant Amsterdam), then pumped into the city, passing the wind boiler house in the process. In the house, there was a huge copper boiler or expansion vessel. This ensured that the pressure in the pipes remained at the same level. In 1994, the Municipal Waterworks left and the site became a car-free residential area with 600 new homes, officially the first eco-neighborhood of the Netherlands. The homes are built with sustainable materials and have low energy consumption. Since 2020, the homes have been 'gasless' and connected to a heat network. Rainwater is drained in the neighborhood to the Waterleliegracht, a newly dug canal on the south side of café-restaurant Amsterdam. Here you can sit outside next to the canal in the summer. The inner courtyard is car-free and was designed by the world-famous landscape architect Adriaan Geuze with romantic hedges and dozens of utility gardens. Our boutique hotel is located next to the Westerpark, a hotspot for students and creative minds. The remaining historic buildings in the park were renovated around 2000 and given a cultural purpose. With numerous festivals, markets, restaurants, cafes, dance venues, TV studios, a cinema and theaters, the Amsterdam International Fashion Week and the Holland Festival, there is always more than enough to do here.
